Harold Becker

Harold Becker (born September 25, 1928) is an American film and television director, producer, and photographer hailing from New York City. Becker is associated with the New Hollywood movement and is best known for his work in the thriller genre. His filmography constitutes a range of films like The Onion Field, Taps, The Boost, Sea of Love, Malice, City Hall and Mercury Rising. Becker not only directed these films but also contributed as a producer. Initially starting out as a still photographer after studying art and photography at the Pratt Institute, he transitioned to directing TV commercials, short films, and documentaries. Becker made his feature film debut in 1972 directing The Ragman's Daughter with Souter Harris. For his short film Ivanhoe Donaldson, Becker earned the Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival Gold Prize. He has additionally worked on various music videos including Madonna's "Crazy for You" and "Gambler". He has also produced several feature films including The Boost and City Hall and Domestic Disturbance. Becker continues to contribute significantly to the area of film and photography.
