J.C. Chandor

Jeffrey McDonald "J. C." Chandor (born November 24, 1973) is an accomplished American filmmaker, lauded for his writing and directing in notable films such as Margin Call (2011), All Is Lost (2013), A Most Violent Year (2014), Triple Frontier (2019) and Kraven the Hunter (2024). Raised in New Jersey, by his mother Mary (McDonald) and his father, an investment banker named Jeff Chandor, he began his journey into the world of film after receiving his bachelor's degree in 1996 from The College of Wooster. His early career primarily consisted of directing commercials for about 15 years leading up to his big break with Margin Call. The 2011 film Margin Call marked Chandor's debut as a feature-length film director. It received several accolades including four Independent Spirit Awards nominations. Chandor's subsequent film, All Is Lost, earned praise for Robert Redford's near-silent solo performance. It received an Academy Award nomination for Best Sound Editing. Chandor continued to make his mark in the industry with A Most Violent Year in 2014, which was nominated for a Golden Globe, and Triple Frontier, released on Netflix in 2019. His latest project, as of 2024, includes the direction of an untitled Sony Pictures drama. Today, Chandor runs the production company CounterNarrative Films, alongside his producing partners Neal Dodson and Anna Gerb, in New York City.
