Sebastian Junger

**Sebastian Junger** is a renowned American journalist, author, and filmmaker born on January 17, 1962. His work has fundamentally focused on documenting the raw interactions and experiences of individuals in risky, dirty, and extremely demanding environments, especially the infantry combat experience. Junger is critically acclaimed for his debut book, _The Perfect Storm: A True Story of Men Against the Sea_(1997) which was later adapted into a popular Hollywood film. His intensive coverage of the War in Afghanistan spans more than a decade with detailed reporting from perilous and remote military outposts. Another one of his notable works, _War (2010)_ encapsulates his on-field reporting for Vanity Fair. This piece of reporting also served as the premise of his widely recognized documentary film, _Restrepo (2010)_, which won the Grand Jury Prize for best documentary at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. His personal life includes being born to a painter mother and a physicist father. He was raised in Belmont, Massachusetts. Junger pursued his Bachelor of Arts degree from Wesleyan University majoring in cultural anthropology. He currently lives with his wife and two children in New York City and Cape Cod and identifies himself as an atheist.
