Tatiana Huezo

Tatiana Huezo, born Tatiana Huezo Sánchez, is a notable film director of Salvadoran and Mexican nationality who resides in Mexico. Her maiden voyage into filmmaking was 'El lugar más pequeño' (2011), an internationally acclaimed documentary about the Salvadoran Civil War. In 2016, Huezo premiered another sensational documentary, 'Tempestad', which narrates the ordeal of two women ensnared in Mexico's human trafficking network. This project not only resonated with audiences but also bagged the 2016 Fénix Award for Best Documentary. The year 2021 saw Huezo veer from her documentary filmmaking style with her first fiction film 'Noche de Fuego', a narrative about the turbulent adolescence of three girls in a Mexican town riddled with drug trade and human trafficking. Huezo was born in El Salvador but has made Mexico home since she was four. She is a graduate from the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC) and has a Master's degree in creative documentary from Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. She has also been an educator at the CCC. Aside from full feature films, Huezo has demonstrated her storytelling prowess through short films like 'Arido' (1992), 'Tiempo cáustico' (1997), 'Familia' (2004), and 'Sueño' (2005). The thread that runs through Huezo's works is her compassionate portrayal of victims of injustice and the unmasking of the impunity of perpetrators. She continues to break new grounds with captivating tales of human resilience in the face of adversity, corruption, and systemic inequality.
