What type of business does Eddie Dodson attempt to establish?
Eddie Dodson thrives on his entrepreneurial ambitions as he utilizes bank funding to create a sleek furniture boutique with an edgy nightclub aesthetic. However, his venture faces adversity when it begins to unravel, leading Dodson into a quagmire of debt and relentless pursuit by the debt collector, Roy Fortune. Compounding his troubles, his once-stable relationship with his affluent girlfriend, Charlotte, crumbles, leaving him feeling emotionally drained.
In a desperate bid to recover some cash, Dodson makes a reckless decision by stealing a valuable vase from his friend Tina and pawning it for a starting pistol. Against the vibrant backdrop of Los Angeles’s punk rock culture, he connects with Pauline, a fellow music lover who shares his zest for all things trendy. As their relationship blossoms, Dodson shares his audacious plans with her, marking the beginning of a wild ride.
The following morning, Dodson embarks on his heist, employing his striking good looks and suave charisma to charm a bank teller. His skillful ploy pays off, allowing him to slip away with a handsome sum. Despite this, Detectives Holiday and Mercury are left puzzled, wondering how Dodson eluded capture, especially given his impeccable sense of style and lack of incriminating evidence.
As Dodson begins to funnel his stolen gains into paying Fortune, Pauline finds herself increasingly drawn to his underhanded endeavors. She justifies his actions by believing he’s doing a service—relieving bank tellers of their burdensome cash, all while showering them with compliments during the robberies.
Dodson’s reputation as a shrewd thief spreads like wildfire through Beverly Hills and Hollywood, focusing his sights on attractive female tellers. His high-stakes robberies become a spectacle, yet during one bold heist, he faces an unexpected setback—a dye pack designed to stain the cash explodes in his getaway car.
After another successful heist, Tina recognizes Dodson and strikes up a conversation before he can slip away. Captivated by her charm, he chooses to abandon Pauline and accept Tina’s invitation to a party. This decision proves costly, resulting in the authorities discovering his abandoned vehicle, marked with telltale dye.
Despite the evidence mounting against him, the teller decides not to identify Dodson in a lineup, thus allowing him to slip through the police’s fingers for the time being. Meanwhile, Pauline’s absence raises questions about her fate and motives, leaving Dodson increasingly isolated.
As Dodson’s extravagant expenditures balloon, Fortune’s temper rises ominously. In a frenzied attempt to sustain his lavish lifestyle, he reaches for the starting pistol. Fortune, however, exerts pressure on Dodson to carry out another daring heist, watched closely by his fearsome henchmen. Although the teller’s supervisor remains resolute amidst Dodson’s bluster, the crafty thief manages to coerce the teller into handing over the cash. He narrowly escapes the scene, dodging both the henchmen and the relentless supervisor.
At his home, Dodson faces a shocking revelation when Pauline returns, revealing that she has disclosed everything to the authorities, citing her waning feelings for him. Ironically, she notes that the police are unaware of her whereabouts. Unbeknownst to Dodson, law enforcement is closing in on him.
In a fleeting moment, Dodson imagines a heroic outcome, envisioning himself in a sacrifice for the greater good. However, as Det. Mercury draws ever closer and recognizes the starting pistol as nothing more than a cheap prop, Dodson’s fantasies shatter. With no escape left, his world unravels as he faces the music and is apprehended by Detective Mercury, his grand escapade coming to an abrupt end.
