Adan Canto (5 December 1981 – 8 January 2024) was a renowned Mexican actor. He is best remembered for his roles as Sunspot in the 2014 superhero film X-Men: Days of Future Past, Paul Torres on the Fox drama series The Following, and A.J. Menendez in the ABC prime-time series Blood & Oil. He also portrayed Rodrigo Lara Bonilla in the Netflix drama series Narcos, and Aaron Shore in the ABC/Netflix political drama Designated Survivor. Canto starred on Fox's The Cleaning Lady until his untimely death. Alongside acting, Canto had a creative hand in writing and directing. His first short film Before Tomorrow was released in 2014. His short film The Shot was recognized with several awards, including Best Narrative Short Film in 2020. Canto was born in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila and crossed the border daily as a child to attend school in Texas. His passion for performance began at a young age, starting his career as a musician before transitioning into acting. He found success as a singer/songwriter in San Antonio before moving to Mexico City to continue pursuing his music career. Along the way, he also dabbled in acting, participated in commercials, and was cast in a TV series. After launching Canto House Pictures, his own production company, in 2013, Canto continued to contribute to the industry even further through directing and production.
