Alex Ferns

**Alex Ferns** is a highly regarded Scottish actor and television personality. Born on 13 October 1968, he started his career in 1993 and has been active ever since. His role in the popular TV show EastEnders as Trevor Morgan from 2000 to 2002 earned him the title of _Britain's most-hated soap villain_. He also embarked on a role of Rick Harper in the BBC Scotland soap opera River City between 2017 and 2018. His portrayal of coal miner Andrei Glukhov in the 2019 miniseries Chernobyl earned him a BAFTA Scotland Award. The family moved to South Africa when Ferns was eleven. His father worked as an electrician and young Alex joined the South African Defence Force and fought in Angola between 1987 and 1989. He studied drama at the University of Cape Town before moving back to the United Kingdom and starting his acting career. His career kick-started when he made an appearance in The Ghost and the Darkness (1996), which led to various television roles. His breakthrough came when he starred in EastEnders from 2000 to 2002, earning a British Soap Award for Best Newcomer. He then appeared in the highly acclaimed trilingual film Joyeux Noël in 2005 which was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars, Golden Globe Awards and the BAFTAs. He consistently played a variety of roles in both film and theater, from appearances in Harry Potter sketches for Comic Relief to playing Scottish gangster Jimmy Boyle in the play The Hardman. He also took part in television series Celebrity Coach Trip and starred in the London revival and UK tour of South Pacific.
