Annie Potts

Anne Hampton Potts, known as Annie Potts, is an American actress born on October 28, 1952. She is well-known for her robust career spanning over four decades, which started in 1977. In her early career, Potts made her debut on the big screen in 1978 in the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer comedy film Corvette Summer, with Mark Hamill, and for this role, she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award. She went on to win a Genie Award for her performance in Heartaches in 1981. Potts is also widely recognized for playing the character Janine Melnitz in the Ghostbusters series, and her character's New York accent became a trademark which she based on a friend's accent who was from the city. On television, Potts's notable roles include Mary Jo Shively in Designing Women (1986–1993), Dana Palladino in Love & War (1993–1995), and Mary-Elizabeth 'M.E' Sims in Any Day Now (1998–2002). She also lent her voice to the character Bo Peep in the Toy Story franchise (1995, 1999, and 2019). From 2017 to 2024, she embodied the role of Connie 'Meemaw' Tucker, a regular on the CBS sitcom Young Sheldon. Beyond her acting roles, Potts has also worked on audio books, winning the 2007 Audie Award for Solo Narration-Female, for her portrayal in Larry McMurtry's Telegraph Days.
