Brandi Marie Carlile (born June 1, 1981) is a multi-award-winning American singer-songwriter and producer. Her music cuts across several genres including folk rock, alternative country, Americana, and classic rock. Carlile was born in Ravensdale, Washington, a rural town southeast of Seattle. Her journey to musical relevance began when she dropped out of high school to pursue a career in music. As of 2021, she has released seven studio albums, with her debut major label album titled Brandi Carlile (2005) earning critical acclaim. She gained wider recognition with her 2007 single, 'The Story', which came from her album of the same name. Carlile has received multiple Grammy Awards and nominations. She also formed an all-female quartet, the Highwomen, in 2019, releasing a self-titled debut album to critical acclaim and commercial success. Carlile has demonstrated her versatile talent with two Emmy Awards for her works in the TV series, We the People, and the YouTube series, Jam Van. Her activism and fundraising efforts cover a broad range of issues including humanitarian aid, COVID-19 relief, racial justice, and LGBT rights.
