Daniel Day-Lewis

Sir Daniel Michael Blake Day-Lewis, often described as one of the greatest actors in the history of cinema, is known for his incredible ability to fully embody the characters he portrays. Born on April 29, 1957 in London, England to a Jewish mother and Irish father, Day-Lewis honed his acting skills at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. He is known for his devotion to his roles, often staying in character throughout the entirety of filming. His roles range from his Academy Award-winning performances in 'My Left Foot' (1989), 'There Will Be Blood' (2007), and 'Lincoln' (2012), to his roles in 'Gangs of New York' (2002) and 'Phantom Thread' (2017). Day-Lewis retired from acting in 2017, only to return seven years later in 2024.

In addition to his unparalleled dedication to his craft, Day-Lewis also values his privacy and is known to live a relatively secluded life. Active in acting from 1981 –1997, and again from 2000 –2017, and from 2024 onward, Day-Lewis is a dual citizen of the United Kingdom and Ireland. His success and imprint on the world of acting have led him to receive numerous accolades, including three Academy Awards, four BAFTA Awards, and two Golden Globe Awards. In 2014, he was knighted for his services to drama.
