David Wenham

David Wenham is an Australian actor applauded for his numerous roles in film, theatre, and television, and has got a rich career spanning since 1987. Most notably, he gained international recognition for his portrayal of Faramir in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. He has also delivered compelling performances in films such as Van Helsing, 300 and its sequel, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, and Elvis. He is, however, more familiar to the Australian audience for his roles as Diver Dan in SeaChange and Price Galese in Les Norton. A portrait of him by artist Adam Cullen received the prestigious Archibald Prize in 2000. Wenham launched his career after completing his Bachelor of Arts (Performing Arts) in 1987 from the University of Western Sydney. He appeared in numerous Australian films, like The Boys and Molokai, proving his versatility as an actor. His role as 'Diver Dan' made him a"sex symbol" in Australia. Wenham occasionally appeared in Hollywood films, but his most impactful role was Faramir in The Lord of the Rings series. He also delivered performances in Van Helsing, 300, and its sequel and video game. In 2017, he played the villain Harold Meachum in Netflix's Iron Fist. He lent his voice to Johnny Town-Mouse's character in Peter Rabbit and its sequel. In 2022, he worked with Baz Luhrmann to portray Hank Snow in the biographical film Elvis. His performance as Scrooge in A Christmas Carol was praised, and he was subsequently appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2023.
