Dermot Crowley (born 19 March 1947) is a renowned Irish actor known for his work on stage, film, and television. His acting career spans multiple decades, displaying a dynamic range of characters. His illustrious stage career boasts of a leading role in an Olivier Award-winning production of Conor McPherson's 'The Weir' during the late 1990s. He also took the stage in 'The Cripple of Inishmaan' with the Druid Theatre Company, a performance that led him to win the L.A. Drama Critics Circle Award for Featured Performance. His debut in television was in 1976, playing George Bernard Shaw in the UK TV series 'Victorian Scandals'. He has then actively participated in various popular series including 'The Bill', 'Midsomer Murders', 'Jonathan Creek' and 'Luther', among many others. In 1987, Crowley auditioned for the role of the Seventh Doctor in Doctor Who, interestingly, the footage of his screen test got featured on the special features of the DVD release of 'Time and the Rani'. He bagged prominent film roles, including General Crix Madine in 'Return of the Jedi' and Sgt. François Duval in 'Son of the Pink Panther'. He has also appeared in a string of acclaimed projects, for instance, 'The Best Offer' (2013), 'Hunted' for BBC One and HBO, and 'The Death of Stalin' (2017).
