Dolly Rebecca Parton (born January 19, 1946) is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and philanthropist, known primarily for her work in country music. After achieving success as a songwriter for others, Parton made her album debut in 1967, leading to a successful career that spanned decades. Her albums in the 1990s did not sell as well as previous ones, but she achieved commercial success once again in the 2000s. With a career spanning 60 years, Parton is described as a country legend who sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-multimedia selling artists of all time. She has had 25 singles reach No. 1 on the Billboard country music charts, a record for a female artist, and she has composed over 3,000 songs. Parton has received numerous awards, including 11 Grammy Awards, and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999.
