Gemma Chan

**Gemma Chan**, born 29 November 1982, is an English actress renowned for her roles in numerous films and series, including the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, *Captain Marvel* (2019) and *Eternals* (2021), and the Channel 4 science fiction series *Humans* (2015–2018). Her film debut occurred in 2009, and since then, her influence in the film scene has steadily grown. Aside from film and television, Chan has also made significant contributions to the theatre. Particularly notable was her performance in the British premiere of Bertolt Brecht's last play, *Turandot*, at the Hampstead Theatre, London, in 2008. Furthermore, Chan has been labelled a fashion icon, reflecting her prominent role in popular culture. Chan was born at Guy's Hospital in London, England, and raised in Locksbottom in the London Borough of Bromley. Her academic path initially led her to study law at Worcester College, Oxford. However, decided to pursue her acting interests, she chose to reject a training contract offer from the law firm *Slaughter and May* and attend Drama Centre London. Over the years, Chan has starred in a multitude of film and television projects, each broadening her reach in the industry. Enacting a diverse range of characters, her roles have ranged from an anthropomorphic robot, a warrior princess in a Disney animated film, to a member of the Marvel Universe. Apart from her acting career, Chan has been involved in advocacy and activism, working with organisations such as Save the Children and UNICEF UK, and launching campaigns in response to racism.
