It’s designed to do any kind of gardening task (or “gnome improvement”), much to the chagrin of Wallace’s canine companion, Gromit, who’s concerned that his pal has become too dependent on his inventions.

The film begins with a nostalgic flashback that takes us back to the heroic deeds of Wallace and his trusty companion, Gromit, as they thwarted the nefarious plans of the infamous criminal mastermind known as Feathers McGraw. This dastardly penguin was intent on acquiring the coveted Blue Diamond, only to find himself locked away in a high-security zoo, where he plots his sweet, sweet revenge. With feigned innocence, Feathers gazes longingly at a newspaper clipping of Wallace and Gromit from his prison cell, constantly brooding over his past humiliation.
Fast forward to the present day, and life has taken a turn towards the chaotic for Gromit, who can’t help but feel overwhelmed by the plethora of gadgets that Wallace keeps acquiring, all in the naive belief that they will enhance their daily lives. One day, while tending to his beloved garden, Gromit watches as Wallace unveils his latest contraption—the “Nifty Odd-jobbing Robot” nicknamed Norbot, voiced by Reece Shearsmith. This flashy android, however, has a less-than-stellar debut, wreaking havoc in Gromit’s garden, much to the dog’s dismay.
Meanwhile, at the local police station, we are introduced to Chief Inspector Mackintosh, portrayed by Peter Kay, as he finds himself struggling to supervise the eagerness of the new recruit, PC Mukherjee. PC Mukherjee takes it upon herself to point out the glaring flaws in the supposedly escape-proof cell that holds Feathers, but her enthusiasm is promptly met with dismissal by Mackintosh, who is perhaps more concerned about maintaining his authority than ensuring public safety.
As the story unfolds, news of Norbot captures the town’s attention, impressing the local residents with its supposed abilities. However, unbeknownst to Wallace and Gromit, Feathers is tuning in from his prison cell, secretly plotting his vengeance. The crafty penguin seizes a moment to swipe a glove from a guard, enabling him to hack into Wallace’s personal computer using a mechanical arm, and alter Norbot’s programming to serve his wicked ends.
When morning dawns, an unsuspecting Wallace and Gromit are met with a shocking discovery—Norbot has constructed an entire legion of additional Norbots! Wallace, convinced these innovations will help the community, sends them off in a flurry of activity throughout the town. However, Gromit, fueled by suspicion, senses impending trouble. His instincts are proven right when the Norbots begin pilfering various items, prompting PC Mukherjee to warn her superior of a potential crime wave that is starting to ripple through their peaceful town.
Desperately wanting to prove his innocence, Wallace attempts to showcase the Norbots to the police when they come calling, but they mysteriously vanish. With mounting public unrest turning against Wallace due to the escalating thefts, Gromit embarks on a daring night mission, determined to unravel the truth. His investigation leads him back to the zoo, where the villainous Feathers is at the helm of the chaos, trying to deal with a mischievous original Norbot who has seemingly backfired. A chase ensues, where Gromit nearly meets his demise in a lion enclosure, only to be rescued at the last minute when Norbot reverts to his original programming.
In a suspenseful turn of events, we find Mackintosh and Mukherjee uncovering that the Blue Diamond was switched with a mere turnip during an earlier incident—a shocking twist that calls their efficiency into question. Determined to save the day, Gromit rushes home, only to find Wallace captured by Feathers and his sinister troops. However, a determined Norbot comes to their aid, using a leaf blower in a heroic effort to break them free.
As the unhallowed chase unfolds on the waterways, Wallace and Gromit pursue their cunning foe across the canal, with Gromit ultimately tasked with catching the dastardly penguin as they navigate their small boat. In a heart-racing moment, Wallace makes the agonizing choice to give up the Blue Diamond to save Gromit’s life, leading to heart-stopping events where the Norbots form a chain to catch Gromit from falling while their escape boat explodes spectacularly.
In the finale, Feathers attempts to make a hasty getaway on a train—only to discover the jewel he covets has been cleverly switched yet again. With the Blue Diamond safely returned to the local authorities, Wallace finds himself cleared of any wrongdoing. Our dear friend Mackintosh decides it’s time to retire, while PC Mukherjee ascends through the ranks, focused on bringing Feathers to justice once and for all. As the duo find solace in their friendship, Wallace returns to his inventive ways, while the two of them raise a toast to their hard-won victory—a testament to the unbreakable bond they share.
