George Lazenby

George Robert Lazenby, often known as George Lazenby, is an Australian retired actor known for his role as James Bond in the Eon Productions film series' On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969). He was the second actor to portray the fictional British secret agent and holds the record for the shortest tenure—having appeared in only one film. Lazenby embarked on his professional career as a model and transitioned to acting in commercials before replacing Sean Connery as Bond. He passed on the opportunity to return for subsequent Bond films and sought roles in films like Universal Soldier (1971), Who Saw Her Die? (1972), The Shrine of Ultimate Bliss (1974), The Man from Hong Kong (1975), and The Kentucky Fried Movie (1977). After his career stalled in the late 1970s, Lazenby ventured into business and real estate. He made later appearances in roles parodying James Bond. In 2017, a Hulu docudrama film, Becoming Bond, encapsulated Lazenby's life story and portrayal of Bond. Born on 5 September 1939 in Goulburn, New South Wales, Australia, Lazenby spent his childhood in hospital following an operation that left him with half a kidney. After his service in the Australian Army and work as a car salesman and mechanic, Lazenby moved to London in 1963, where he pursued a modelling career and was voted Top Model of the Year in 1966. In 2024, Lazenby announced his retirement from acting.
