The movie begins in a picturesque winery located in Seattle where a couple, Patrick and Adeline, share a moment that many couples dream of—an engagement proposal. Patrick, portrayed by Alex Walker, drops to one knee and asks for Adeline’s hand in marriage; she accepts with joy. However, the mood quickly shifts when Patrick discovers that the photographer he hired, Nico, played by Latham Gaines, has failed to capture the moment properly. Tensions escalate dramatically when a masked killer known as “Heart Eyes” makes a terrifying entrance, violently stabbing Nico through the face. As chaos ensues, Heart Eyes shoots an arrow aimed directly at Patrick, prompting Adeline to flee in panic. She races inside the winery, but unfortunately, she becomes trapped in a grape press machine and meets a gruesome fate.
As news about Heart Eyes spreads, the killer’s history comes to light, having previously terrorized cities like Boston on Valentine’s Day by targeting unsuspecting couples. Meanwhile, we are introduced to Ally McCabe, played by Olivia Holt, an ad designer who is trying to navigate her own love life. During a casual coffee outing with her best friend and coworker Monica, portrayed by Gigi Zumbado, Ally has a comical encounter with a charming stranger, Jay Simmons, played by Mason Gooding. Their interaction turns awkward when they accidentally bump heads, leading to an embarrassing moment for Ally.
At her workplace, however, Ally finds herself on the receiving end of criticism from her boss, Crystal Cane, played by Michaela Watkins, for making an ill-timed pitch for a perfume ad that focuses on notorious doomed couples, which is in extremely poor taste given the ongoing Heart Eyes murders. Crystal unexpectedly brings Jay into the mix, who is a new hire at the company, to assist with the situation. Jay invites Ally to dinner for a work-related discussion, which she reluctantly agrees to after her friend Monica pushes her to look her best.
As the situation unfolds, detectives Zeke Hobbs, portrayed by Devon Sawa, and Jordana Brewster as Jeanine Shaw, arrive at the winery to investigate the murders. It is here that they discover a wedding band with the initials “J.S.”, leading them to believe Heart Eyes has a twisted motive behind his gruesome actions. Disturbingly, the situation escalates with reports of more victims turning up at a local spa.
Ally’s date with Jay reveals contrasting views about love; while Jay is hopeful about finding the right partner, Ally’s recent heartbreak has left her jaded. After a heated exchange, Jay leaves in frustration, but Ally chases after him, leading to a surprising kiss just as her ex-boyfriend Collin and his new girlfriend enter the scene. They mention that Collin and Adeline were supposed to go on a double date with them, adding to Ally’s embarrassment.
Later that evening, an unforeseen series of horrors commence as Ally loses her apartment key and Jay comes to her rescue, only for them to be ambushed by Heart Eyes. The tension escalates as they narrowly escape his grip, leading to a frantic chase that brings them dangerously close to danger as Heart Eyes takes out innocent victims in his wake. When the police arrive, they mistakenly think Jay is the killer, causing further chaos.
In a tense moment at the police station, Ally encounters a tech-savvy man named David, who humorously tries to flirt with her amid the turmoil. The power goes out, leading to a shocking revelation as the killer returns, targeting the detectives. Determined to save Jay, Ally fights her way through to free him, but they soon realize they’ve led Heart Eyes to a horrifying scene at a nearby drive-in, where more couples fall victim to the killer’s rampage.
In a desperate act of survival, Ally and Jay confront Heart Eyes, leading to a shocking revelation as they fight for their lives. A series of wild and gruesome confrontations ensue, resulting in Ally ultimately turning the tables on the killer. In a climactic ending, Ally and Jay survive the ordeal, but the threat appears to linger as dark secrets unfold.
A year later, after overcoming their trauma, Ally and Jay stand before the same drive-in where they faced Heart Eyes, symbolizing their newfound strength and love. As they move toward a brighter future, Jay proposes to Ally, who, in a twist, surprises him with a ring of her own, solidifying their commitment.
However, the film closes with an unsettling note as Ally receives a mysterious phone call after the proposal, leaving the audience on the edge of their seats, hinting that perhaps the nightmare is not entirely over.
