Gina Torres

**Gina Torres** (born April 25, 1969) is a revered American actress. Known for her starring roles, her repertoire includes Zoe Washburne in the science fiction series Firefly (2002–2003) and its feature film sequel Serenity (2005). Moreover, she also played Jessica Pearson in the legal drama series Suits (2011–2018) and its spin-off series Pearson (2019). Currently, she stars on the series 9-1-1: Lone Star. Born and raised in New York, Torres had a firm upbringing. She was raised Catholic in The Bronx, and her parents were natives of Cuba. She proved to be a multilingual power, being fluent in Spanish. She began singing at an early age and attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York City. Trained in opera and jazz, she sang in a gospel choir, further accentuating her vocal prowess. She won the ALMA Award in 2001 for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Cleopatra 2525. Her acting career is studded with supporting roles in numerous television series including Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Xena: Warrior Princess, Cleopatra 2525, Alias, Angel, 24, The Shield, Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries, Hannibal, Revenge, and Westworld. She also voiced Vixen in the animated series Justice League Unlimited and replaced Jada Pinkett Smith's voice-over in The Matrix Online. In 2018, Torres executive produced and starred in Pearson, a Suits spin-off. Recently in 2020, she portrayed Cleo Phillips in the drama pilot The Brides and was cast as Tommy Vega in the Fox drama series 9-1-1: Lone Star.
