Jimmy O. Yang (birth name: Au-yeung Man-sing) is a Hong Kong-American actor and acclaimed stand-up comedian, best known for his stellar performance as Jian-Yang in the HBO comedy series Silicon Valley, Dr. Chan Kaifang in Netflix's Space Force, and Josh Lin in Netflix's romantic comedy film Love Hard. Mr. Yang was born in British Hong Kong to parents from Shanghai. He moved to the United States, specifically Los Angeles, at the age of 13 in search of better educational opportunities. His journey in the world of stand-up comedy began at the young age of 21 at the Ha Ha Comedy Club in North Hollywood. After a brief stint in financial consulting, Jimmy returned to his roots, taking jobs in San Diego to support his passion for comedy while doing free stand-up sets at The Comedy Palace. He made his television debut on the CBS series 2 Broke Girls in 2012.
His career further skyrocketed with his appearances in popular shows like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Criminal Minds. He garnered further acclaim for his role in the action-drama Patriots Day and the romantic comedy Crazy Rich Asians. Yang has also authored an autobiographical book titled 'How to American: An Immigrant's Guide to Disappointing Your Parents', where he shares his experiences of growing up as a Chinese immigrant and pursuing a Hollywood career against his parents' wishes. He also voices the Monkey King in the Netflix animated movie The Monkey King. Language-wise, Jimmy is a polyglot, proficient in English, Shanghainese, Cantonese, and Mandarin Chinese. Yang also has a penchant for cooking, which he shares on his YouTube channel.
