Jon Voight

**Jonathan Vincent Voight** (/ˈvɔɪt/; born December 29, 1938) is an American actor, who has left an indelible mark on Hollywood. The recipient of numerous accolades, including an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, and four Golden Globe Awards as well as nominations for four Primetime Emmy Awards. Films in which Voight has appeared have grossed more than $5.2 billion worldwide. Voight won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of a paraplegic Vietnam veteran in Coming Home (1978). His other notable films include Deliverance (1972), The Champ (1979), Mission: Impossible (1996), among others. He is also known for his role in the National Treasure film series. In 2019, he was awarded the National Medal of Arts. He also made a significant impact on television, winning his fourth Golden Globe for his role in Ray Donovan. He has two children, James Haven and Angelina Jolie, both of whom have entered the film industry. Despite originally adopting liberal views, Voight has gained attention in his later years for his outspoken conservative and religious beliefs. Voight was born on December 29, 1938, in Yonkers, New York, to Barbara (née Kamp) and Elmer Voight (né Voytka), a professional golfer. He has shown interest in acting since his high school years. After graduation, Voight moved to New York City, where he pursued an acting career. He made his Broadway debut in the fall of 1961 as Rolf in The Sound of Music. In 1968, Voight was cast in the groundbreaking Midnight Cowboy (1969), the film that would make his career. Voight continued to establish himself in the following decades with diverse roles in both films and TV productions. His political views, mainly his shift from liberal to conservative, have also been widely discussed. In recent years, Voight continues to act and express his political beliefs.
