Kati Outinen

Anna Katriina 'Kati' Outinen was born on 17 August 1961 and is a notable Finnish actress, particularly recognized for her recurring leading roles in Aki Kaurismäki's films. Outinen was born in Helsinki and studied under Jouko Turkka, a notable figure in Finnish drama studies, but she never became associated with his method of acting. Her breakthrough role was in the generational classic youth film 'Täältä tullaan elämä' (1980) directed by Tapio Suominen. In 1984, she starred in 'Aikalainen'. While Outinen has a strong domestic reputation due to a variety of roles in theatre and television drama, it is internationally that she is most celebrated. Particularly in Germany and France, Outinen's performances in Kaurismäki's films like 'Shadows in Paradise' in 1986, have brought her much acclaim and adulation. In fact, her work in the Kaurismäki film 'The Man Without a Past' even won her the award for Best Actress at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival. Outinen and Kaurismäki's latest collaboration was 'The Other Side of Hope' in 2017. Aside from film, Outinen has also contributed to the screenplay of the Finnish soap opera 'Salatut elämät' and played a Swedish bank manager in the Estonian series 'The Bank' in 2018. Notably, she has also lent her voice to the animation series 'Babar' and the video game 'Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus' as Ritva Tuomivaara. In 2016, Outinen starred alongside Jim Carrey in the film 'Dark Crimes'. From 2002 to 2013, Outinen worked as a professor in acting at the Theatre Academy Helsinki.
