Dame Kristin Ann Scott Thomas DBE is a celebrated British actress known for her roles in award-winning films and theatre productions. She made her movie debut in Under the Cherry Moon (1986) and received the Evening Standard Film Award for Most Promising Newcomer for A Handful of Dust (1988). She is a five-time BAFTA Award and Olivier Award nominee, winning the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994) and the Olivier Award for Best Actress in 2008 for The Seagull. Notable performances include The English Patient, Mission: Impossible, The Horse Whisperer, and Tomb Raider. In 2015, she was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) for services to drama, having been made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2003 Birthday Honours. Her filmography also includes a number of French films, demonstrating her fluency in the language and her versatility as an actress.

Scott Thomas was born in Redruth, Cornwall, and, due to the influence of her drama studying mother, developed an interest in acting from an early age. Despite the tragic loss of her father at a young age, Scott Thomas pursued her passion and studied acting at the École Nationale supérieure des arts et techniques du théâtre (ENSATT) in Paris. Following her graduation, she landed her first major role in Under the Cherry Moon. Her career took flight from there, leading her to work with renowned actors like Robert Redford and with established directors like Robert Altman. Scott Thomas' acting skills have garnered international acclaim, and she is equally renowned in both the British and French film industries. She further distinguished herself with her stage performances, playing leading roles in famous productions like Harold Pinter's Betrayal.
