Lawrence Dane

Lawrence Dane, born Lawrence Joseph Zahab on April 3, 1937, was a renowned Canadian actor and film producer, widely recognized for his portrayal of Lt. Preston in Bride of Chucky. Born in Masson, Quebec, he was a part of a Lebanese family and grew up in Ottawa. He attended Ottawa Tech and LaSalle Academy. Dane's acting journey started on stage in 1958, playing an older policeman in Our Town at Ottawa's Fisher Park Community Centre under Lynne Gorman's direction. The same year, he met filmmaker F. R. Crawley and boldly ventured into screen acting, commencing his illustrious career. Crawley introduced him to the world of reel by offering him a role as an extra and stand-in for John Perkins as Constable Frank Scott in the TV series R.C.M.P. Apart from acting, Dane explored his creative instincts by co-writing and directing the film drama 'Heavenly Bodies' in 1984. His producing feats include noteworthy contributions to The Rowdyman, written by and featuring Gordon Pinsent, and the horror film Rituals. Dane's stunning performances never went unrecognized; he earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the 1st Genie Awards in 1980 for the film Running, and an Earle Grey Award nomination at the 10th ACTRA Awards in 1981 for A Question of the Sixth. Dane was married to Mary Laurel MacIntosh since 1995, leading a fulfilled personal life until his demise from pancreatic cancer on March 21, 2022, in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario.
