He is well recognized for his portrayal of Sean Boswell in various Fast & Furious films such as The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006), Furious 7 (2015), and F9 (2021). He also made his mark on television with roles in CBS series American Gothic (1995–1996) and NCIS: New Orleans (2014–2019). Some of his other films include Sling Blade (1996), Flash (1997), Crazy in Alabama (1999), and All the Pretty Horses (2000).
Born in Decatur, Alabama, Lucas grew up in a Southern Baptist family and graduated from high school in 2001. He entered the entertainment industry at age 11 in Kevin Costner's film The War. He has portrayed a variety of roles from an autistic piano prodigy in Killer Diller (2004) to a talented young golfer in Seven Days in Utopia (2011).
