Mathieu Amalric

Mathieu Amalric, born 25 October 1965, is a praised French actor and filmmaker notable for winning several César Awards and a Lumières Award. Internationally known for his embodying roles in the James Bond film Quantum of Solace playing the lead villain, Steven Spielberg's Munich, Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel, and The French Dispatch among others. His highly esteemed lead performance in The Diving Bell and the Butterfly caught the attention of critics, drawing considerable acclaim.

Amalric was born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, a Paris suburb, to notable parents who were both associated with renowned French newspaper, Le Monde. His momentum in the film industry yearned from his work in the film Ma Vie Sexuelle (My Sex Life...or How I Got Into an Argument), earning him a César Award. His role in The Diving Bell and the Butterfly as Jean-Dominique Bauby, a journalist, earned him another César Award for Best Actor. Amalric carried on this momentum into the 2008 film Quantum of Solace, playing the James Bond villain, Dominic Greene, opposite Daniel Craig. His film, On Tour, premiered at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival gaining him the accolade of Best Director. He continued to steal the spotlight with his 2014 film, The Blue Room, where he not only starred but also directed. The film was shortlisted to compete in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival.
