Matthew Modine

Matthew Avery Modine, born March 22, 1959, is a prominent American actor and filmmaker who has made his mark in various high-profile films throughout the 1980s. His journey in the entertainment industry started when he bagged a role in John Sayles' film Baby It's You in 1983. Soon after, he earned international fame after being cast by Robert Altman in the film adaptation of David Rabe's play Streamers. His noteworthy performances include lead roles in Birdy, Vision Quest, and Full Metal Jacket. Apart from films, Modine also made significant contributions on television by portraying characters like Dr. Don Francis in the HBO film And the Band Played On and Dr. Martin Brenner in Netflix's series Stranger Things. In addition to acting, Modine has been recognized for his directional chops as well, with his feature debut If... Dog... Rabbit... gaining praise especially after the success of three of his short films at the Sundance Film Festival. Modine's accomplishments aren't limited to cinema and television. He also explored theatre, appearing in Arthur Miller's Resurrection Blues, and a stage adaptation of Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird.
