Melissa Barrera Martínez (born 4 July 1990) is a Mexican actress who began her career in Mexican telenovelas before transitioning to Hollywood. She emerged on the scene with roles in 'Always yours Acapulco/A Love To Remember' (2013) and 'So Much Love' (2015) followed by the series 'Ravens Club' (2017). Barrera studied musical theater at New York University Tisch School of the Arts and had her first taste of performing in school musical productions of Grease, Aida, and Footloose. The actress made her debut on Mexican reality show 'La Academia' in 2011, showcasing her singing talent. In Hollywood, Barrera gained recognition with the series 'Vida' (2018–2020) and the musical film 'In the Heights' (2021). She took on the role of Sam Carpenter in the slasher films 'Scream' (2022) and 'Scream VI' (2023), further establishing herself as a 'scream queen'. In 2022, she starred in a survival drama 'Keep Breathing' on Netflix and took up a title role in the film musical Carmen. Barrera's diverse career includes starring in the 2024 vampire film Abigail and indie film Your Monster, which critics labelled as the best performance of her career.
