Plot Summary

The curtain opens on a tranquil ballet recital, where 12-year-old Abigail (Alisha Weir) takes center stage, her porcelain doll-like features radiating an innocence that belies the darkness about to unfold. Unbeknownst to Abigail and her audience, three lurking criminals – their faces obscured by shadows – have been monitoring her performance from the wings. As the music reaches its crescendo, they spring into action, abducting Abigail and whisking her away in a van that disappears into the night.

Their destination: a labyrinthine mansion, where the enigmatic Lambert (Giancarlo Esposito) awaits, flanked by his cohorts, each with their own unique persona. Joey (Melissa Barrera), a mysterious force with an air of quiet intensity; Frank (Dan Stevens), a former lawman haunted by the ghosts of his past; Sammy (Kathryn Newton), a femme fatale with a penchant for trouble and a smile that could charm the devil himself; Dean (Angus Cloud), a rough-around-the-edges loose cannon; Peter (Kevin Durand), an imposing figure with a history as an enforcer for the Quebec mafia; and Rickles (Will Catlett), a quiet, stoic presence whose eyes seem to hold secrets.

As Lambert dispenses their code names, it becomes clear that Abigail is being held hostage in a twisted game of cat and mouse. The objective: to extract a $50 million ransom from her wealthy father, Kristof Lazar, with the promise of a tidy $7 million cut for each participant – provided they can resist the temptation to crack under pressure. Lambert confiscates their phones, enforcing an eerie silence that permeates the mansion’s walls.

As the group settles in for a night of revelry and debauchery, Frank, Peter, and Sammy place bets with Joey, wagering she cannot penetrate their facades. But Joey proves a master of human psychology, uncovering the darkest secrets buried beneath their masks. Frank is revealed as a former cop haunted by his past; Peter’s connections to the Quebec mafia are laid bare; and Sammy’s patrician upbringing is tempered by her penchant for criminal activity.

As the night wears on, Joey visits Abigail in her captivity, forging an unexpected bond with the young girl who has unknowingly become the linchpin in their deadly game. Joey shares a glimpse of her own personal demons, mentioning a son she refuses to name aloud, which Abigail affectionately dubs “Justin.” Before departing, Abigail offers a poignant apology for the horrors that are to come.

Meanwhile, Dean’s attempts at flirting with Sammy fall flat, and his subsequent descent into the mansion’s depths ends in a gruesome discovery: his own decapitated head. The others stumble upon the carnage, their collective psyche shattered by the brutal reality of their situation. Frank, still reeling from the revelation that Abigail is Kristof Lazar’s daughter, stumbles into her quarters, gun drawn, demanding to know the truth about her father. Abigail’s innocuous reply – “Kristof Lazar” – sends shivers down Frank’s spine, recalling a traumatic event in his past when he faced off against Valdez, Lazar’s notorious hitman, and lost four comrades in the process.

As the group navigates the treacherous labyrinth of the mansion, Joey and Rickles (character not specified) engage in a hushed conversation that raises concerns about Frank’s true intentions. Are they unwitting pawns in his sinister game, or is he secretly Valdez, hell-bent on eliminating them to claim the ransom? As they strive to find an escape route, tragedy strikes: Rickles meets a gruesome demise at the hands of the same merciless attacker.

Frank’s callous suggestion to eliminate Abigail (Abigail, centuries-old vampire) sparks outrage in Joey, who intervenes to prevent further bloodshed. The group cautiously enters Abigail’s chambers, where they’re shocked to discover her true nature: a being with a storied history that spans centuries. As she lunges at them, they manage to extricate themselves from the room, but their respite is short-lived. The mansion’s security systems spring into action, sealing their escape routes and trapping them within its imposing walls.

Confronted by the reality of Abigail’s vampiric nature, the group resorts to tried-and-true methods to combat her: garlic cloves, crucifixes, silver bullets, and makeshift stakes. They launch a half-baked ambush on Abigail, who’s eerily dancing amidst Dean’s lifeless corpse. Frank’s misguided attempt to eliminate Abigail with gunfire is foiled when she rapidly recovers from the headshot.

Abigail seizes Peter’s cross necklace, using it to torment him with calculated brutality. Sammy’s foray into garlic-based combat ends in failure, and Abigail claims her as another victim, consigning her to a gruesome fate among the pool of lifeless bodies that dot the mansion’s floors. As chaos ensues, Joey ultimately succeeds in subduing Abigail using the same tranquilizer they previously employed during their kidnapping caper. In a desperate bid to contain the monster, they imprison her within a makeshift cage, praying it will hold against her supernatural fury.

As Abigail’s gaze flickers open, Frank attempts to intimidate her with a menacing tone, but she’s not having it. With an air of quiet confidence, Abigail proceeds to unveil the true identities of each group member, starting with Sammy (Jessica), whose desperation to escape reality led her to pilfer from her parents and flee. Next, Peter’s secret is revealed: Terrence, a former enforcer for the mafia who’s more brawn than brains. Frank, it turns out, was once Adam, an operative working for Abigail’s father before she brutally ended their lives and left their mutilated bodies as a gruesome surprise for him to discover. The revelation that Joey is actually Ana Lucia, a former army medic whose morphine addiction led her to unintentionally harm a powerful crime figure, shedding light on how Abigail and her father came to be aware of her existence and why they ultimately deprived her of custody over her son. As the group’s connections to Lazar are exposed, it becomes clear that each member was specifically targeted by him and brought to Abigail as a pawn in his twisted game.

As Frank is tasked with keeping watch over Abigail, she unexpectedly breaks free from her enclosure and attempts to constrict him. However, Joey seizes an opportunity to burst open the boarded windows, bathing Abigail in sunlight - a cruel irony that proves agonizingly painful for her. The group’s disintegration into chaos as they scramble to find an exit is short-lived, as Sammy’s vampiric instincts take hold and Abigail exercises control over her like a puppeteer manipulating her marionette. In a gruesome turn of events, Abigail claims Peter’s life, draining his blood with an unsettling efficiency. Just as she’s poised to target Joey and Frank, Ana Lucia strikes back by redirecting sunlight at Sammy, causing the vampire to disintegrate into a bloody mess.

As Joey (no actor name provided) and Frank embark on a mission to disable the labyrinthine mansion’s security system, they stumble upon an unexpected revelation: Lambert, a fellow vampire, who candidly confesses his complicity in orchestrating the sinister plot. He had lured the criminals to the mansion under false pretenses, promising them a lucrative payoff that was nothing more than a ruse. The true objective was to satiate Abigail’s vampiric hunger, and Lambert offers Frank an unsettling proposition: join their ranks by embracing his own immortality, allowing them to vanquish Lazar and Abigail in the process. Unfazed by the moral implications, Frank agrees to surrender to the temptation of eternal life, and Lambert bestows upon him the curse of vampirism.

As the sun dips below the horizon, Frank’s newfound status is put to the test when he confronts Joey and Abigail with the intention of claiming Lazar’s empire as his own. However, Abigail proves to be a formidable foe, and their battle results in Frank’s further empowerment – courtesy of a taste of her blood. Seizing the opportunity, Frank attempts to turn Joey into one of the undead, but she refuses to yield to his will. In a desperate bid for liberation, Abigail shares a vital secret with Joey: the only means to break free from the vampire’s grasp lies in destroying the creature that initiated her transformation – and so, the two unlikely allies join forces to overpower Frank.

With Frank dispatched and his dark powers undone, Joey prepares to depart into the night. Yet, her solitude is short-lived, as she finds herself face-to-face with the enigmatic Lazar (Matthew Goode), whose true identity she can only speculate about. His intentions, however, are crystal clear: he seeks to eliminate the young woman who thwarted his plans. Just in time, Abigail intervenes, revealing Joey’s crucial role in foiling Frank’s scheme. This newfound understanding prompts Lazar and Abigail to spare Joey’s life, instead setting their sights on her unsuspecting son, Caleb. As Joey flees into the darkness, she steers her van toward a destination that promises answers about her missing loved one.
