Moritz Johann Bleibtreu, a German film actor, voice actor, and film director, is well-recognized for his immense contribution to the movie industry, particularly in stellar films like Run Lola Run, Das Experiment, The Baader Meinhof Complex, and Elementary Particles. Born in Munich, Bavaria, West Germany in 1971, Bleibtreu hails from a family of actors, which includes his parents and several ancestors. His career kicked off in his childhood, gaining momentum after starring in Neues aus Uhlenbusch (News From Uhlenbusch). After obtaining a secondary school certificate, he lived in Paris, Italy, and New York, learning French and attending an acting school in the latter. At 21, he began working at the Thalia Theater and the Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, stepping into the movie realm later. An award-winning actor, Bleibtreu worked in numerous well-received films and became a voice actor in Walt Disney-produced films Brother Bear and Brother Bear 2. His roles in international co-productions and German TV series added a further layer of versatility to his career. Since 2020, he expanded his career as a director, kicking off with his film Cortex. In 2021, he starred in an RTL drama series called Faking Hitler.
Bleibtreu is also known for his personal life. He fathered a son with his ex-wife Annika in Reinbek, Germany in 2008. In 2022, he married Saskia de Tschaschell in Reinbek. On top of his acting and directing roles, he stirred up some controversy in 2021 when he chose to join the #allesdichtmachen campaign, a collective cause involving about 50 other actors providing advice for COVID-19 measures.
