Francesco 'Nino' Castelnuovo (28 October 1936 – 6 September 2021) was a prominent Italian actor of film, stage and television. He was best known for his starring role as Guy Foucher in the French musical film The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964). Throughout his acting career, Castelnuovo made numerous appearances in films like Rocco and His Brothers (1960), Camille 2000 (1969), L'emmerdeur (1973), Il prato macchiato di rosso (1973), Massacre Time (1966), The Five Man Army (1969), and The English Patient (1996). Castelnuovo was born in Lecco, Lombardy, the youngest of three boys. After working various jobs, he moved to Milan, where he started working as a sales agent simultaneously with his enrolment in the acting school of the Piccolo Teatro in Milan. His career took off in 1957, with his debut as a mime in the RAI children's television show Zurli il mago del giovedì. He later garnered considerable attention with his breakthrough role in The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964). His later works primarily featured on television serials around Europe, portraying numerous parts. He remained active in the Italian theatre stage until his demise in 2021.
