Oliver Platt, born January 12, 1960, is an American actor recognized for his extensive and award-nominated work across both stage and screen. He stepped into the world of acting with his debut in the 1988 film 'Married to the Mob'. Gaining prominence for his roles in films like 'The Impostors', 'Pieces of April', 'The Ice Harvest', 'Casanova', 'Frost/Nixon', and 'Please Give', Platt has been appreciated for his versatility. Some of his other notable roles are from 'Working Girl', 'Flatliners', 'Beethoven', 'Indecent Proposal', 'A Time to Kill', 'Bulworth', 'Dr. Dolittle', and 'Ready to Rumble' to name a few. Most recently, he has emerged in the Hulu series farmed 'The Bear'.

In his early life and education, Platt was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, to American parents and returned to the United States when he was three months old. Platt spent much of his childhood travelling due to his father's career as a foreign service officer, which took him across Asia and Washington, D.C. He attended a progressive boarding school named Colorado Rocky Mountain School in Carbondale, Colorado, followed by majoring in drama at Tufts University. Platt's early career involved Off-Broadway and regional theatre, and he made his acting decisions based on the role being 'different from what I just did'. Platt's first lead role on television was in the short-lived drama 'Deadline' where he played Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Wallace Benton. He has been nominated on multiple occasions for his performances.
