Paul Greengrass

Paul Greengrass CBE, born 13 August 1955, is an esteemed English film director, film producer, screenwriter, and former journalist. Some of his widely recognized works include the Bourne action-thriller series, Bloody Sunday at the Berlin International Film Festival, United 93 which won the BAFTA award, and Captain Phillips. In 2004, he co-wrote and produced the film Omagh, winning the Single Drama award from the British Academy Television Awards.

Greengrass started his career as a director in the 1980s with ITV's current affairs programme 'World in Action'. His foray into the intricacies of British intelligence gave rise to his infamous book 'Spycatcher' which was controversial enough to be banned for sensitive content. Transitioning into drama, he directed non-fiction films such as 'The One That Got Away', and 'The Fix', often revolving around agitated social and political topics. His strong narrative, especially with films like 'Murder of Stephen Lawrence', 'Bloody Sunday', earned him critical acclaim and important festival awards. Achieving mainstream success with the Bourne franchise, he went on to direct United 93 that examined the 9/11 hijacking incident. In 2007, serving himself as the first president, he co-founded Directors UK, an organization for British directors. Working steadfastly till present, some of his future projects include directs medieval action film 'The Hood', 'Fairy Tale', and 'The Rescue of Flight 1421'. His strong and effective storytelling has also been recognized by the Order of the British Empire (CBE).
