Ralph Rexford Bellamy was an iconic American actor, his career spanning an impressive 65 years across stage, film, and television. Born on June 17, 1904, Bellamy's filmography is extensive and diverse. He, with much accolade, essayed both leading and supporting roles. His splendid performance in the Sunrise at Campobello earned him a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play. Notably, he also received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Awful Truth (1937).

His fame also came from his roles in Boy Meets Girl (1938), His Girl Friday (1940), Flight Angels (1940), The Wolf Man (1941), and particularly, Sunrise at Campobello (1960). He later delivered memorable performances in Rosemary's Baby (1968), Oh, God! (1977), Trading Places (1983), and Pretty Woman (1990). A versatile personality, Bellamy not only acted but flirted with screenwriting, presenting, and ushering. He actively participated in the industry, to the extent of serving four terms as the president of the Actors' Equity Association from 1952 to 1964.
