Richard Samuel Attenborough, Baron Attenborough was a renowned English actor, film director, and producer. Born on 29th August 1923 in Cambridge, he was the president of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). He served in the Royal Air Force during World War II, contributing significantly to the film unit, before proceeding to a successful acting career. Attenborough's leading roles in films like Brighton Rock (1948), The Great Escape (1963), and Jurassic Park (1993) are widely celebrated. His directorial debut, 1969's Oh! What a Lovely War, earned him a BAFTA nomination. Two of his films, Gandhi and A Chorus Line, won Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Director. He was actively involved in charity work and education advocacy, besides being a lifelong supporter of Chelsea Football Club. Attenborough collected Picasso ceramics from the 1950s, and over 100 items were displayed at the New Walk Museum and Art Gallery in 2007.
