Sandra Miju Oh (born July 20, 1971) is a Canadian and American actress, recognized for her starring roles in the HBO comedy series Arliss, ABC medical drama series Grey's Anatomy, and BBC America spy thriller series Killing Eve. She has been awarded a Primetime Emmy Award, two Golden Globe Awards, and four Screen Actors Guild Awards. In 2019, Time magazine recognized her as one of the 100 most influential people globally. Oh first made her name in Canadian films Double Happiness and The Diary of Evelyn Lau, winning Genie Awards for both. She later featured in Judging Amy and American Crime and showed her versatility with voice roles in American Dad!, American Dragon: Jake Long, The Proud Family, and others. In 2008, she hosted the 28th Genie Awards and became the first woman of Asian descent to host the Golden Globe Awards in 2019. She has also had an impressive career in films and animation. Throughout her journey, Oh has been a trailblazer for Asian actors, marking several firsts in her career.
Sandra Miju Oh was born in Nepean, Ontario, on July 20, 1971, to middle-class South Korean immigrants. She started acting and practicing ballet at age four. She founded the environmental club BASE and was elected student council president during her time at Sir Robert Borden High School. Despite her parents' advice, she rejected a journalism scholarship to Carleton University to study drama at the National Theatre School of Canada in Montreal. After graduation from the National Theatre School in 1993, she starred in a stage production of David Mamet's Oleanna and won roles in biographical television films of two significant female Chinese-Canadians.
