Miles Raymond (Paul Giamatti), an aspiring writer struggling with self-doubt and disillusionment, embarks on a poignant road trip through California’s picturesque Santa Ynez Valley wine country alongside his former college roommate and actor friend, Jack Cole (Thomas Haden Church). As they navigate the rolling hills and lush vineyards, Miles’ desire to unwind and indulge in life’s simple pleasures is juxtaposed with Jack’s last-ditch attempt to satiate his wandering eye.

Their encounter with Maya (Virginia Madsen), a charismatic waitress at Miles’ favorite eatery, The Hitching Post, sets off a chain of events that will forever alter the trajectory of their lives. As they engage in a series of double dates, deception and miscommunication begin to seep into the fabric of their relationships.
