Born in 1959 to famous actor-politicians Sunil Dutt and Nargis, Dutt's professional cinematic debut was Rocky (1981) which was directed by his father. Dutt received critical acclaim for his roles in various films including Thanedaar (1990), Khalnayak (1993), Vaastav: The Reality (1999) and the Rajkumar Hirani-directed Munna Bhai series (2003–2006), which established his iconic status in the Indian film industry.
