Sharon Vonne Stone, born March 10, 1958, is an American actress known for her femme fatale roles and mystery women characters on film and television. She emerged as one of the most popular sex symbols of the 1990s and has been the recipient of numerous awards, including a Primetime Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a nomination for an Academy Award. She was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1995 and was named Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters in France in 2005. Stone's breakthrough came with her role in Paul Verhoeven's science fiction action film Total Recall (1990), and she gained international recognition for her portrayal of Catherine Tramell in the erotic thriller Basic Instinct (1992). Her performance in Martin Scorsese's crime drama Casino (1995) garnered her a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award nomination. Stone has also acted in television series which include the ABC miniseries War and Remembrance (1987), the HBO television film If These Walls Could Talk 2 (2000), Steven Soderbergh's Mosaic (2017) and Ryan Murphy's Ratched (2020).
