Stephen Lang

**Stephen Lang** is an esteemed American actor, with a reputation garnered for his role as the main antagonist Colonel Miles Quaritch in James Cameron's Avatar (2009). His commendable performance in the movie fetched him the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor. Lang again reprised the role in the sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water (2022). Besides his notable roles in film, Lang is known for his extensive career on Broadway, including the 1992 production of The Speed of Darkness which got him a Tony Award nomination. Spanning over two decades, his service as the co–artistic director of the Actors Studio from 2004 to 2006 is highly regarded. Born on July 11, 1952, in New York City, he had his early education in Jamaica Estates, Queens. His middle school was George Ryan Junior High School, and he attended George School, a Quaker boarding school in Newtown, for high school. Swarthmore College awarded him a degree in English Literature in 1973. His film debut was in the 1984 revival of Death of a Salesman followed by Manhunter (1986). Lang's capacity for versatile role adaptation is evident in his portrayal of the 'One Armed Man' in 2000's The Fugitive, and as FBI Agent Charles Winstead, the reputed assailant of John Dillinger in 2009's Public Enemies. A primary contributor to Lang's fame is his distinct narration in the ESPN miniseries, The Bronx Is Burning and in the audiobook of the 'Duel' by Richard Matheson. Recent years have seen Lang in meaty roles in the Steven Spielberg–produced TV series, Terra Nova, and the AMC's martial-arts drama, Into the Badlands.
