Tenoch Huerta

Tenoch Huerta, full name José Tenoch Huerta Mejía (Spanish: [teˈnotʃ ˈweɾta]), is a celebrated Mexican actor who has left a distinctive mark in Latin America and Spain's film industry. Born on 29th January 1981, he began his acting journey with an acting course under María Elena Saldaña, later studying with Carlos Torres Torrija and Luis Felipe Tovar. Despite not self-identifying as Indigenous, Huerta is passionate about indigenous heritage, drawing on his own roots from a Nahua maternal great-grandmother and a Purépecha paternal great-great-grandmother.

With a career kick-off in 2006, he debuted with a minor role in Asi del precipicio. His notable roles include Li'l Mago in Sin nombre, Carlos Mamani in The 33, Alejo in Camino, and Rafael Caro Quintero in Narcos: Mexico. In recent years, he gained widespread attention for his role as Namor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, beginning with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022). Outside of acting, Huerta is a recognized anti-racism activist, spurred on by personal experiences with racial prejudice and systemic discrimination. On this front, he collaborated with Poder Prieto, a Mexican collective effort to change societal perceptions of Brown individuals. His book Orgullo Prieto (Black Pride), delves into Mexico's racist constructs, blending personal stories to cast light on the complexity of the issue.
