Tim Minchin

Timothy David Minchin AM (born 7 October 1975) is an Australian actor, writer, musician, poet, composer, songwriter, and comedian. He gained public acclaim with his show Darkside, which achieved critical success at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2005. Minchin further expanded his repertoire with his roles in various stage productions. Notably, he is the composer and lyricist of the Olivier Award-winning, Tony Award-winning, and Grammy Award-nominated show Matilda the Musical and the Olivier Award-winning and Tony Award-nominated show Groundhog Day The Musical. In recent years, he switched to the small screen, co-writing and starring as Lucky Flynn in the TV series Upright in 2019. Minchin's contributions to the arts earned him an honorary Doctor of Letters degree from the University of Western Australia in 2013, another from the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in 2015, and a final one from Edith Cowan University in 2019. He was also appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in the 2020 Australia Day Honours for his significant service to the performing arts and the community. Minchin has also consistently given back, using his platform to raise funds for victims of sex abuse and promote marriage equality.
