Anthony Paul "Tony" McCarthy, born on November 9, 1969, is an Irish retired footballer noted for his impressive career, and currently serving as a physiotherapist at Shamrock Rovers. He started his career in the League of Ireland with University College Dublin in 1987, swiftly making a name for himself and being capped by the Republic of Ireland U21 in April 1990 at Oriel Park. After two seasons, he transferred to Derry City where he earned two further U21 caps. His move to Shelbourne after a lone season at the Brandywell marked an exceptionally successful period in his career, earning him the title of PFAI Young Player of the Year and two more U21 caps. In 1992, Tony crossed the channel to join Millwall FC where he scored on his debut and received the Man of the Match award. Later on, he signed for Colchester United and after a five-year stint in England, he returned to Shelbourne where he added more significant honors to his name, including winning the League of Ireland three more times and the FAI cup. His dedication and remarkable skill in the field have established him as a notable figure in the world of football.
