Ernst Wilhelm "Wim" Wenders, born August 14, 1945, is a renowned German filmmaker and author. A major figure in New German Cinema, Wenders has been recognized with awards from the Cannes, Venice, and Berlin film festivals. He has also received a BAFTA Award, and has been nominated for three Academy Awards and a Grammy Award. He has a diverse body of work, starting with his debut film, Summer in the City in 1970. He gained much acclaim for his films like Alice in the Cities, The Wrong Move, and Kings of the Road which are later known as the 'Road Movie trilogy'. His other notable films include The American Friend, Faraway, So Close!, and Perfect Days.

Wenders has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature three times, for films such as Buena Vista Social Club, Pina, and The Salt of the Earth. A multi-faceted artist, Wenders has also delved into directing documentaries like Tokyo-Ga, The Soul of a Man, Pope Francis: A Man of His Word, and Anselm. Once the president of the European Film Academy (1996–2020), he was awarded with an Honorary Golden Bear in 2015. His passion for photography showcases a focus on desolate landscapes and he's considered an auteur director.
