Darren Aronofsky (born February 12, 1969) is an extraordinary American filmmaker, known for the surreal, melodramatic, and often disturbing elements incorporated in his films. Studying film and social anthropology at Harvard and directing at the American Film Institute, Aronofsky quickly became a notable director. He debuted with the surrealist psychological thriller 'Pi', which won him the Directing Award at Sundance and the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay. His subsequent films, including 'Requiem for a Dream', 'The Fountain', and 'The Wrestler', have received wide acclaim.
