Jan Hrebejk

Jan Hřebejk is a significant and respected figure in the Czech film industry, recognized both as a film director and actor. Born on the 27th of June, 1967 in Prague, Czechoslovakia, Hřebejk's career journey began after graduating from high school in 1987 and subsequently attending the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU) from 1987 to 1991. Here, he pursued scriptwriting and dramaturgy, collaborating frequently with classmate and screenwriter Petr Jarchovský.

Hřebejk's directorial flair was recognized early in his career at FAMU where he was the creative mind behind two short films. His directorial debut, a short film for Czech TV, caught the attention of critics and viewers alike. Over the years, he showed immense versatility in his work, with films such as the rock and roll comedy set in the 1950s, known as 'Big Beat', receiving critical acclaim. Apart from creating successful films, he also ventured into television with a children's TV series, which was syndicated around Europe. His filmography is vast and extends from 'Co všechno chcete vědět o sexu a bojíte se to prožít' in 1988, to 'State of Emergency' expected in 2024.

He made his acting appearance in films such as 'Co všechno chcete vědět o sexu a bojíte se to prožít' back in 1988 and 'Rozmarná léta českého filmu' in 2011, among others.
