Kim Nguyen

Kim Nguyen, born in 1974, is a renowned Canadian film director and screenwriter, gaining critical acclaim for his 2012 film War Witch (Rebelle). His work on this film earned a host of accolades, including an eminent Academy Awards nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. Kim was not just director of the film, but also the winner of the awards for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. This success put him on the international map and resulted in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences extending him an invitation to join, featuring amongst the 276 new members of their inimitable institution. In addition to War Witch, Nguyen has directed a string of major films such as Eye on Juliet (2017) and The Hummingbird Project (2018). His early life was spent in Montreal, Quebec where he was born to a Vietnamese father and a French-Canadian mother. His early acquaintance with the arts took place at Concordia University in Montreal, where he graduated in 1997 with a BFA degree. To add to his repertoire, Nguyen also boasts specialized knowledge of computer-assisted image manipulation which he acquired while he fulfilled teaching assignments on cinematographic language and screenwriting at the Institut de création artistique et de recherche en infographie (ICARI) and Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf in Montréal.
