Plot Summary

In a peculiar twist of fate, Morton Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Greg Jenko (Channing Tatum), erstwhile classmates with vastly different personas, cross paths again at the police academy. Schmidt, an Eminem aficionado still reeling from his chubby nerd days, finds an unlikely partner in Jenko, the former underachieving jock who’s now a fledgling law enforcement officer. As they navigate the challenges of their training, Schmidt and Jenko forge an unlikely friendship, with Schmidt helping to polish Jenko’s study skills and Jenko motivating Schmidt through rigorous physical activity.

Their shared experiences culminate in their graduation as partners, only to be reassigned to the unglamorous world of park patrol. However, a chance encounter with a group of notorious One Percenters yields an unexpected opportunity when they apprehend their leader, Domingo (DeRay Davis). Though the department is forced to release him due to Jenko’s oversight in reciting the Miranda rights, the two are given a second chance when they’re reassigned to the newly revitalized 21 Jump Street.

Their introduction to the enigmatic Captain Dickson (Ice Cube) sets the stage for their latest mission: infiltrating high schools as part of a specialty division tasked with disrupting the spread of a dangerous new synthetic drug. With their youthful appearances serving as their greatest asset, Schmidt and Jenko are assigned to track down the supplier by going undercover as brothers living at Schmidt’s parents’ house.

However, their initial efforts are derailed when Jenko accidentally swaps their identities, resulting in each taking classes meant for the other. As they struggle to regain control, they uncover the lead dealer of the drug – Eric (Dave Franco), a charming and popular student – but soon realize he’s merely a middleman. The duo’s undercover operation takes a bizarre turn when they’re forced to take the drug during an impromptu dealing session at Eric’s behest.

As they attempt to purge the drug from their systems, Schmidt and Jenko find themselves navigating the surreal experience of being high, whether they’re awkwardly chatting with their P.E. teacher, Mr. Walters (Rob Riggle), or attempting to keep pace during a chaotic track meet. In this bizarre scenario, Eric takes an unexpected liking to Schmidt, setting the stage for further complications in their already convoluted investigation.

As Schmidt effortlessly ingratiates himself with the in-crowd, developing a romantic interest in Eric’s friend Molly (Brie Larson), he finds himself drawn into their social circle. Meanwhile, Jenko befriends the brainiacs in his AP Chemistry class, where he discovers that they have a peculiar hobby - secretly tapping into people’s cell phones to eavesdrop on their conversations. Seizing the opportunity to gain Eric’s complete trust, Schmidt decides to host a party at his residence, while Jenko sees an opening to tap into Eric’s phone. Despite Captain Dickson’s strict orders against serving alcohol and drugs to minors, they recklessly procure contraband and confiscate marijuana, knowing that Eric will soon be arriving with Molly and his friends. As the evening unfolds, Jenko covertly listens in on Eric’s phone conversations while Schmidt becomes embroiled in a confrontation with a rival of Eric’s.

Schmidt’s plan takes an unexpected turn when he pretends to sell the confiscated drug to Captain Dickson, cleverly diverting attention away from their illicit activities. Meanwhile, at Eric’s house, Schmidt musters the courage to ask Molly out on prom night, oblivious to Jenko’s surreptitious eavesdropping as he delivers a scathing insult about Jenko to Eric. As tensions escalate, Schmidt and Jenko become aware of Eric’s impending deal with the One Percenters, prompting them to follow Eric and uncover the truth. However, their investigation takes an unexpected turn when Domingo spots them, forcing them to make a hasty retreat.

Back at school, Jenko confronts Schmidt about his earlier insults, potentially jeopardizing their case and drawing them into deeper trouble. The two friends engage in a heated confrontation that ultimately results in their expulsion from Jump Street. That night, they are confronted by Eric and his cohorts, who offer them a chance to redeem themselves as security personnel for the prom deal. Eric reveals that he has arranged a meeting with the supplier, none other than Mr. Walters. As the One Percenters arrive on the scene, Domingo recognizes Schmidt and Jenko as police officers and orders two of his men to eliminate them.

However, these would-be assassins surprise everyone by revealing themselves as DEA Agents Tom Hanson (Johnny Depp) and Doug Penhall (Peter DeLuise), who were once part of the Jump Street program. Hanson nonchalantly chats with Schmidt and Jenko during the standoff, providing Domingo with a window of opportunity to take out Hanson and Penhall.

The action unfolds as Schmidt and Jenko find themselves entangled in a high-stakes shootout with Mr. Walters, the cunning leader of the One Percenters, and his loyal cohorts. In a daring escape, Mr. Walters, Eric, and their hostage Molly speed away in a sleek limousine, hotly pursued by another vehicle packed with One Percenters. Meanwhile, Schmidt and Jenko are hot on their heels, careening through the streets in yet another luxurious ride, determined to put an end to the chaos.

In a flash of creative problem-solving, Jenko uses his AP Chemistry expertise to concoct a homemade chemical bomb, capable of neutralizing the One Percenters’ threats. As they converge with Mr. Walters and Eric, Jenko positions himself as a human shield, sacrificing his own safety to protect Schmidt from harm. Though struck in the arm and chest, Jenko’s bullet-proof vest absorbs some of the impact, allowing him to continue fighting.

Enraged by Jenko’s heroism, Schmidt exacts revenge on Mr. Walters, delivering a precise shot that severs the culprit’s manhood. With their adversaries subdued, Schmidt and Jenko apprehend the culprits, restoring order and mending their own fractured bond in the process.

As the dust settles, Schmidt rekindles his romance with Molly, sharing a tender kiss that underscores the duo’s growth and maturity. When Dickson offers them a new assignment at Jump Street, this time set in a college environment, Schmidt is ecstatic, while Jenko expresses dismay at the prospect of navigating unfamiliar terrain.
