In a world grappling with cultural disconnection, Krishnagopal Reddy, affectionately known as “Kris,” attempts to carve out his identity at Rutgers University. His initial shock at discovering that all his roommates are also Indian international students is evident. Among them are Ajay (Deep Katdare), who idolizes African-American culture, Jagjit, a creative spirit constrained by his father’s engineering expectations, and Salim (Ronobir Lahiri), who clings to traditional values and views Indian-American women as overly Westernized for marriage.

As Kris ventures into the intricate maze of cultural identities, he is enchanted by Nina, a vibrant young woman who not only shares his Indian heritage but also possesses a profound connection to her roots, including fluency in her parents’ native language. Kris’s attempts to win Nina’s affection lead him on a journey filled with intentional actions, such as joining the Indian Students Association to stay close to her and mastering traditional dance forms, like Dandiya Raas.

Gradually warming to his roommates, Kris comes to appreciate the exceptional blend of talents and cultural insights they offer. United in their playful mission to help Kris impress Nina, they craft various cultural experiences that showcase the richness of Indian heritage. Though Kris initially resists embracing these traditions, he ultimately finds himself captivated by their beauty, as his roommates’ collaborative efforts nurture in him a deep respect for the culture he once sought to leave behind. Through this transformative journey, Kris learns the invaluable lesson that embracing one’s roots can be a celebration rather than a burden.
