Steve Dallas (weatherman) leads a life of indulgence, squandering his paycheck on fleeting pleasures with women. His career at WRSC news channel affords him this lifestyle, but behind the scenes, he relies on assistant Delia Shepard to handle the forecasts. When not preoccupied with his own desires, Steve spends time with old friend Ben Baker, a free-spirited individual who devotes himself to cannabis and the carefree pursuit of happiness.

Their friendship is interrupted by an unexpected visit from Ben, who bursts into the WRSC office in a state of distress. He informs Steve that his father has passed away, prompting Steve to drive him to the funeral. However, their tardiness arrives as they decide to rescue crayfish from being used as bait, missing most of the ceremony except for the lowering of the casket. Despite their late arrival, Ben's stepmother Angela, a young special education teacher, greets them warmly at the graveside.

At the reading of the will, Angela is left with nothing, having explicitly stated her wishes; Ben's sister Terry inherits $350,000, while Ben himself receives the family farm, general store, and a substantial sum of $2,000,000. The revelation sends Ben into a manic state, prompting him to decide that his inheritance should be used to establish a school spreading New Age ideologies. He begins holding classes in the backyard of the family farm, only to be stopped by Terry, who contests the will on the grounds of Ben's sanity, forcing him to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

As Angela tries to comfort him, they share a moment of intimacy. The next morning, after taking his prescribed medication, Ben shaves off his beard and meets with Terry, relinquishing control of the store to her. With a newfound sense of purpose, Terry makes plans to demolish the old store and replace it with a modern structure, marking a significant change in their lives.

As Steve's mundane routine begins to suffocate his sense of purpose, he finds himself inexorably drawn to the vibrant essence of Angela (insert actress name), whose presence seems to radiate warmth and positivity.
