In this captivating narrative, we follow three young women, Kelly MacNamara, Casey Anderson, and Petronella “Pet” Danforth, as they form an unexpected alliance within the Kelly Affair, a rock band managed by Kelly’s boyfriend Harris Allsworth. Setting out for a new life in Los Angeles, their journey leads them to Kelly’s estranged and wealthy aunt, Susan Lake. She promises Kelly a substantial inheritance, but things turn sour when Porter’s manipulations try to tarnish Kelly’s reputation by labeling her as a “hippie,” hoping to influence Susan’s decision regarding the divided fortune he covets.

Despite Porter’s underhanded schemes, Susan introduces the band to Ronnie “Z-Man” Barzell, a flamboyant rock producer who is captivated by their performance. Under Z-Man’s glamorous wing, the band is rebranded as the Carrie Nations and invited to perform at one of his extravagant parties, igniting a fierce rivalry with Harris.

As Kelly becomes entangled with Lance Rocke, a manipulative gigolo eyeing her wealth, Harris finds himself irresistibly drawn to Ashley St. Ives, a porn star who soon finds his growing dependence on substances a turn-off. This chaotic existence leads to a violent confrontation between Harris and Lance, followed by an unexpected one-night stand with Casey that results in a surprising pregnancy. After a brutal incident involving Lance, Kelly finally decides to sever ties with him.

Amidst the turmoil, Casey grapples with her disillusionment regarding men and enters into an affair with fashion designer Roxanne, who pressures her to consider terminating her pregnancy. Meanwhile, Pet encounters a whimsical romance with law student Emerson Thorne, but their fairy-tale fizzles when she gets involved with Randy Black, a vicious fighter who mercilessly assaults Emerson.

Porter offers Kelly a deal: $50,000 for giving up any claim on Susan’s fortune. When Kelly turns him down at a party, Susan recognizes Porter’s deceitful tactics and cuts him out of her life.

Throughout their wild escapades, the Carrie Nations release numerous records while grappling with constant touring and drug use. In a desperate attempt to reclaim the spotlight, Harris attempts a reckless stunt during a performance, resulting in him sustaining severe injuries that leave him paraplegic. Kelly becomes his unwavering support, bringing a moment of peace as Emerson offers forgiveness to Pet. At the same time, Casey and Roxanne nurture their budding romance, while Susan joyfully rekindles her relationship with Baxter Wolfe.

Just when it seems harmony has been restored, Z-Man orchestrates a surreal gathering that challenges the very fabric of reality. During this memorable night, Z-Man’s true identity— a woman posing as a man— emerges, inciting a chaotic eruption of violence that tragically claims the lives of Lance, Otto, Roxanne, and Casey.

In a frantic race against time, Kelly, Harris, Pet, and Emerson rush to Z-Man’s residence in response to Casey’s desperate call for help. The dramatic encounter results in Pet sustaining injuries as they struggle to quell Z-Man’s rampage. Ultimately, however, justice prevails with Z-Man’s demise, while Harris miraculously regains hope and mobility, marking a new chapter on his road to recovery.

As the chaos subsides, three couples—Kelly and Harris, Pet and Emerson, and Susan and Baxter—find solace in love, culminating in a heartfelt wedding ceremony. Observing from outside the courthouse, Porter witnesses the enduring power of love and resilience in the face of adversity.
